My Review of the Tandem t:slim x2 Insulin Pump ◉ Subscribe: https://goo.gl/ZfjYfu

Choosing an insulin pump is an extremely personal choice, perhaps one of the biggest choices a Diabetic will make in his or her life. Since switching from the Medtronic 640g to the Tandem t:slim x2 , I’ve had a lot of questions about this process; how I came to choose it and what I like/dislike about it, so I thought it best to make a video about this very subject, with the hope that it will help others with their big decision. All diabetics have a unique and varied set of requirements depending on what they want and need out out their device, so I can’t stress enough how important it is to do your own research in finding the right pump for your needs. And I really hope this is a helpful resource in that quest!

This pump is new to me. I had a Medtronic, and an Animas pump before this. The Animas pump was a good decision, and the Medtronic to replace it was rather forced on me. So Far, the T-Slim puts the others to shame. I find it wild, intriguing, and amazing that the pump does everything, corrections, and maintenance without asking for input. This is a well-engineerd instrument! I hope the quality of what it seems to be stands up. I'll not go backwards in my care, this pump won't allow it.

I was once suffering from Diabetes disease when I saw a lot of reviews from people who talked about Dr Igudia on YouTube how he cured their diabetes and I gave it a try and his natural herbs medication really cured my type 2 diabetes

  3. Sheena Schlytter

I was a medtronic user for 14 years!! I am now on the tslim and dexcom g6. This is game changing. I wish I had had a doctor that suggested this sooner. Omg game changer. This is 1 trillion times better. Its tiny cute easy to use and the IQ is so much easier then medtronic.

Seeing a lot of reviews from Dr IGUDIA on YouTube for Diabetes disease cure not until I gave it a shot and that was the end of my Diabetes disease after using his herbal medicine

  5. Janis Nielson

My Diabetes disease all came to an end after using the natural herbs medication I ordered from this great Dr IGUDIA on his YouTube channel. I will forever tell the world about your great medication doc.

My daughter drinks lots of water and urinates with the same rate, there are no other symptoms to show if those have anything to do with diabetes. This is a good information that I have gone through Diabets.Care She is 2 years 9 months, hale and healthy, have not done any blood test. But I am not certain if one can get diabetes at such a tender age. Please I will like to know more on that

Hey tandem my pump charging port is fried how do I fix it

  8. Iuliia Roslander

Would be nice to see the whole video of changing New cartridge and New autosoft 90 at the same time,it feels so far impossible to change them both at the same time.

Just configured my tslim:x2, got my first infusion set in and connected, got my first dexcom g6 in and running. All done with youtube videos. Used Medtronic for years and got so i could so set and sensor training literally in my sleep. Tandem/Dexcom will get there. Love having my sugars displayed on my watch & phone.

How long in advance can you store the cartridges which you already have filled with insulin before using it. Filling a cartridge costs time which you can’t do during work or travel.

  11. Kimberly Wade

How long does it take to get the training once you have your pump

  12. Chy

Everyone wanted me to watch all the training videos but I hate getting recommended diabetes content 😭

starting my t slim raining tomorrow on a pump for 12 years 10 with animas who were amazing 2 with medtronic who were horrific, ive only heard good things about tandem and im so excited to start using it.

so I've had a Medtronics pump for 20 years and made the jump to the tandem pump (just today) and Dexcom G6 (three weeks ago). I love them BOTH BUT I really hate the way to fill the Tandem pump. Please look at how SUPER EASY Medtronics makes it. Now I'm looking for a "fill syringe"? on the net to buy 🙁 The Medtronics pump reservoir has an attachment that connects directly to an insulin vial bottle and none of this ridiculous transfer insulin via "fill syringe" then inject it to the cartridge. Then after attaching the quickset tubing I can add more insulin back to the cartridge? This seems like the ONLY part of this new pump that I really dislike/hate.

  15. Ranjeet Tate

@Tandem: Why does the video show a new cartridge in the pump and an existing infusion set/site? Both should be changed every 48-72 hours, right? So what would be the occasion to put in a new cartridge but not change the infusion set? If this is a NEW infusion set, then you are not filling the cannula in this sequence.

  16. Ali Maleki

I’ve been on Medtronic pumps for over 20 years. I received my Dexcom last week and the X2 yesterday and look forward to an improved experience. The only thing I don’t look forward to is the reservoir filling process!

  17. Jesse Smith

I have a question on removing residual air from the cartridge. The video says to pull the plunger until it is fully retracted, what does it mean for the plunger to be fully retracted, and is it possible that I could pull too much air out of the cartridge? My trainer said to pull until I see two air bubbles come out, just want to make sure this lines up with what the video is saying

  18. Type1Vegan

    I can’t find “options.” All I see is a 1, a 2, and a 3. Can’t make sense of it.

  19. Matthew

Thanks for the great review. I've now been offered an insulin pump on NHS and this is one of the options. So it was really good to have a thorough review which didn't seem bias in any way and actually pointed out the downsides in a reasonable way.
I wonder if some of those concerns like the belt clip will be made in a newer version. Or if they would just leave 3rd party companies sort it with add ons.

  20. Phelicia Morton

I am about to start using this pump- this video is invaluable! I’ll be able to get the important hacks (clip!) before I start using it. Thank you!

Many thanks for this. I'm looking to change pumps from Med 630G to tslim in a few months. Medicare prevented me from getting the 670G on the last swap so, I'm keenly interested in the auto basal adjustment being offered. I had already swapped to Dexcom G6 CGM which has been far more accurate, reliable, and avoids continual nuisance alarms for calibrations. It'll be nice to get back to the pump – CGM interface if I go this route.
One big pro for me with Medtronics is the pump being waterproof vs resistant. Spending a lot of time on the water results in me sometimes spending time in the water which can be a bad thing with a water-resistant pump.
I share the concern about tslim insulin waste. The Medtronics reservoir/infusion set has been quite efficient. I typically fill 250 units lasting 5 days losing only 10 – 15 units leftover in the tubing and reservoir. It seems (from others) tslim loses 50 units in the bladder plus whatever the tubing holds. Does this sound about right for losses you've experienced?
There are always pro/cons but, so far, I'm leaning towards tslim. Your help is appreciated.

what do you do at night if you turn around a lot of times in sleep?

  24. noybman

I've used Deltek Cozmo and all the earlier Medtronic models up to the 770G. Since my warranty is out, I began digging into the X2. At this point, I think I wouldn't be doing myself a service switching to X2 with Control IQ. Watching your video, you were very positive, almost too positive. I'm very curious if perhaps a rep helped specify the strong points? I mention this because Tandem and the reps couldn't actually give a large differentiation between this pump and the 770G (soon to be 780G). X2 benefits? Dexcom+no calibrate & smaller footprint on the body, thats it.

My thoughts on X2 is that the Dexcom setup they use is ahead of the game in patient satisfaction ***PRIMARILY*** because you can wear the sensor a week(10 days even), and not finger stick and calibrate numerous times a day. THIS also means, LESS ALARMS and ANNOYANCES!!!! A great feature we all want & arguably need for peace. The "wait a minute moment" is that Medtronic G4 will be doing this too! The comment that this Tandem X2 is color, and upgradeable is moot because so is the 770G. Guardian may not be as accurate as Dexcom, but its actually smaller, the transmitter lasts far longer, (therefore is cheaper). The rechargeable battery on the X2 is nice, but, has more drawbacks than its worth… Anyone that owns a smart watch can appreciate!!! Except with the smart watch you can walk away. If you are on travel and your portable source is dead, or a cord is misplaced, etc… you literally cannot get insulin until charged. You must plan constantly to have tether time, and stuff to tether with you. Whereas, with the Medtronic, you can pop in a AA and if you need one, you can get one at almost any store quickly and be back up and running without tether time. Also, the pump out of warranty would still function until it doesn't, whereas the X2 will die, die, die, and the battery isn't something we can change with a quarter or a finger nail. You also mentioned the insulin waste… this is somewhat unforgivable. Insulin is precious, wasting it is ridiculous for a modern device well designed to do its job and be economical. Having a reservoir possibly "pop" off is not acceptable. Medtronic had a device recall when the retaining clip would pop off affecting the accuracy (or ability) for the pump to deliver insulin. My point here, is that the delivery device shouldn't be press fit into place.

My number one selling point at this point to stick with Medtronic is that, it is the devil I know. What I mean, is that alarms alerts and general annoyances. After reviewing the Tanden user guide I was beyond sad to see that they also have not smartly designed an alarm/alert system that takes a sleep cycle into account. Medtronic doesn't either, but as soon as Medtronic releases a G4 and the 780G software, it will be equivalent to the X2, and allow a replaceable AA that lasts almost a month (not charge every 2-3 days, or 5 days…. etc). The menu control for the X2 is a joke, and if you click accidently, their solution is to blank the screen and make you 1-2-3 start over? Medtronics approach here is easy. Both require pump touching, both are working on allowing bolus from the app; neither allow it yet.

If either pump manufacturer would acknowledge the sleeping profile, and determine that the insulin wont run out during sleep, the battery will make it until the morning, the bood sugar doesn't need an immediate calbration, etc…. (in other words, truly non critical alarms with a little computation and let us sleep) I expect every diabetic would flock to that pump. With software upgrades, either company could do it (the FDA excuse is an excuse, they can prove the results with math – I can't imagine the FDA rejecting math).

PS: I was on Humulog for ages…. then went to FIASP… (FIASP has vitamin B), I got samples from my doctor of more Humulog and Novolog and tried them both), after numerous pump and supplies replacements, set type changes, etc, I have now determined the occlusions are prevalent with FIASP. If you are using FIASP, don't be surprised if its a contributor (in my case it was 100% the cause). I notified the pump companies, my doctors office, etc, and now that I'm no longer on FIASP occlusions are a rare occurrence. [Again, I say proved, I know I proved it, but I'm not a doctor and I can only share that both Tandem and Medtronic say they have not certified their pumps to use anything other than Humulog/Novolog).]

Do you find the tube line to be a problem? Would you prefer the lineness?

  26. Chris Blanchard

Alarms twice a week, you apparently never owned a medtronic 670g with guardian 3 sensor. Multiple alarms a day every day.

  27. Cheryl Mack

I would really appreciate knowing what your opinion is about wearing the pump with dresses and bathing suits? I am not a big person and don't think that "hiding" the pump in my bra is something that sounds particularly comfortable and mostly because I'm not well endowed. 🙂 Please let me know your opinion…would love to know!

  28. Sherri Edwards

I’m on a 770g pump I just got my tandem pump I can’t wait to use it I guess Medtronic did a recall on the 770g

  29. ReddDevil1982

Thank you for your good video and your honest opinion about the Tandem t:slim x2 pump.

I am from Germany and I have been a diabetic typ 1 for over 23 years.
Currently, I am using the MiniMed 640G pump and freestyle libre 2. My Insulin, which I use with my pump is Lyumjev.
I am thinking of switching to Dexcom G7, when it is available, and then to a t:slim x3 pump.

    My questions for you:
► Which insulin to you currently use with your Tandem t:slim x2 pump? Humalog? Lyumjev? An other insulin?
► When my blood sugar is high, e.g. 200 mg/dl or more, my freestyle libre 2 device shows me between250 mg/dl to 270 mg/dl. There are high deviations.
Which experiences have you made with the dexcom G6 for the cases that your blood sugar was over 200 mg/dl. How big were the deviations from the value which dexcom G6 shows to your blood sugar (finger pricking)?

    Best regards from Germany,
    Oli

My doctor is trying to get me to switch from medtronic to tandem. I've been surfing videos to get some insight. I'm going on 33 years as a T1D and I don't know how any of us would do it without an insulin pump, I really don't.
Now having said that and in an attempt to not sound too creepy stalker-ish I gotta say my God your pretty!

My tslim came with a clip on so they must have added it to them. I use the under shirt for mine and really like them. I like my pump if I could get it down pat on putting it on. Right now I’m without it cause I went through to many cause I wasn’t putting it on right. Wish I would have thought to look up the how to put it on video before I went through so many.
